Edsall, Joseph E.

Edsall attended common schools in his native state. He worked in the mercantile profession, and operated a distillery and a tannery. Edsall worked as a county clerk, before winning election to the New Jersey House of Assembly. After his term in the state legislature, he served as judge of the Court of Common Pleas. Edsall won election, as a Democrat, to the U.S. House of Representatives, serving from 1845 to 1849.
