In 1796 Gentry moved to Kentucky, where he married Elizabeth Hornback. Together they had eight children, one of whom was Abraham Lincoln's childhood friend Matthew Gentry. About 1818, Gentry settled on a 1,000-acre tract of land in Spencer County, Indiana. He later purchased even more land, making him, in Lincoln's words, "
