Gentry, James (of IN)

In 1796 Gentry moved to Kentucky, where he married Elizabeth Hornback. Together they had eight children, one of whom was Abraham Lincoln's childhood friend Matthew Gentry. About 1818, Gentry settled on a 1,000-acre tract of land in Spencer County, Indiana. He later purchased even more land, making him, in Lincoln's words, "the rich man" of the neighborhood.
