Henderson, John

Born: 1811-XX-XX Scott County, Kentucky

John Henderson was a shoe and bootmaker and a farmer. In March 1828, he married Mary Skidmer, in Wayne County, Indiana. The couple eventually had at least three children. The family had moved to Illinois, by 1850, settling in Edgar County, where Henderson was engaged in his trade and claimed $200 in real estate. Ten years later, he was farming and owned more than $2,000 in real and personal property. During the Civil War, he served in Company A of the Seventh Illinois Cavalry at the rank of quartermaster sergeant. He was discharged in August 1863 after two years of service, due to disability.
