On July 7, 1842, George H. Holtzman married Susan Isabel Young, with whom he had several children. Holtzman served as a clerk in the U.S. Department of the Interior's Indian Office beginning at least as early as 1851. In 1860, he had a personal estate valued at $150. He continued working in the U.S. Department of the Interior's Indian Office through and beyond the Civil War.
