Hussey, Nathan

Nathan Hussey was an early settler of Sangamon County, Illinois, and a pioneer settler of the Oregon Territory. As a young man, Hussey moved from his native state to Washington County, Virginia. In 1803, he married Mary Stewart, and the couple soon moved to Green County, Ohio, where seven of their nine children were born. During the War of 1812, Hussey served in the army under William Henry Harrison. In May 1819, Hussey and his family moved to Sangamon County, settling in what would become Fancy Creek Township. He eventually purchased approximately 400 acres in the area. Mary S. Hussey died in June 1841, and in April 1845, Nathan and some of his children emigrated to the Oregon Territory, settling in the Williamette Valley.
