Johnston, Dennis F.

As the son of Abraham Lincoln's stepbrother, John D. Johnston, Dennis F. Johnston was Lincoln's nephew. He was also a farmer, soldier, harness maker, and keeper of a lodging house. In May 1864, he joined Company I of the 135th Illinois Infantry as a private. At the time of his enlistment, he lived in Coles County, Illinois. He mustered out just a few months later, in September 1864.
