David Lincoln was the nephew of Abraham Lincoln's grandfather, Abraham Lincoln, and first cousin of Thomas Lincoln, Abraham Lincoln's father. Son of Jacob and Dorcas Robinson Lincoln, David Lincoln lived his entire life in Rockingham County, Virginia. In December 1808, he married Catherine Bright, with whom he had eight children. David lived and farmed in Dayton, Virginia, and he also lived in Lacey Spring, where he operated a tavern. In 1835, David was among the commissioners assigned to create a militia unit for Rockingham County, which became the 145th Regiment of the Virginia Militia.
