Samuel H. Littler was a cabinet and furniture business owner and a Baptist. On December 11, 1836, he married Rachel Radcliffe in Circleville, Ohio. Afterward, they moved to Keokuk, Iowa. In 1852, they relocated to California, and, in 1855, they moved to Urbana, Illinois. Rachel died in February 1857. On December 2, 1858, he married Sarah M. Busey, with whom he had at least nine children. He died of a disease of the throat.
