McIlvaine, Abraham R.

McIlvaine attended the common schools and worked in agriculture in Chester County, Pennsylvania. He served as member of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives, from 1836-1837. In 1842, McIlvaine won election, as a Whig, to the U.S. House of Representatives, serving from 1843-1849. He ran unsuccessfully for renomination in 1848. McIlvaine returned to Chester County and engaged in agriculture and the iron business.
