David Miller, farmer, was part of a large family who left Virginia in 1833, eventually settling in Sangamon County early in 1835. Miller resided in the county for the remainder of his life, owning real estate valued at $4,800 and personal property totaling $1,000 at the time of the 1860 census. He married Eliza Jackson in 1838 and following her death he married Fannie Jackson in 1872. With his second wife, Miller had a daughter who died in infancy and a son who was born after Miller’s death. In religion, Miller was a member of the Lutheran Church.
