Son of Christopher Mosteller, Thomas Mosteller married Charlotte Morris in Franklin County, Indiana on July 21, 1827. The couple moved with his parents to Ohio, where they had two children, and in 1830, moved to Sangamon County, Illinois, where they had an additional six children. In 1850, he was living and farming in Menard County, Illinois, and owned real estate valued at $1,000. In 1860, he owned real property valued at $6,000 and a personal estate of $1,000.
