Pierce served in the Black Hawk War in the company commanded by Abraham Lincoln. By 1840, he lived in Menard County, Illinois, and had two other persons living with him, likely his wife and son. By 1860, he was still farming in Menard County, and he owned over $5,000 worth of real estate. At least three times, Pierce served on the jury in a case litigated by Abraham Lincoln.
