Ringo lived in Menard County, Illinois, from at least 1840 until 1854. In 1833, he married Emily Masterson, with whom he had at least two children. In 1844, Emily Ringo died, and in 1845, Ringo wed Mary Jane Clark. In 1854, they moved their family to Audrain County, Missouri, where Ringo purchased land and began farming. At the time of his death, he owned a 300-acre farm in Audrain County.
