Henry J. Rogers

Henry J. Rogers was a prominent telegraph engineer and signal developer. He created flag and pyrotechnic signal systems for the American military, both of which were modified during the Civil War. He was also an associate of Samuel F. B. Morse and helped him develop the telegraph and lay the first line between Baltimore and Washington, DC in 1844. Rogers was made superintendent of the line in Baltimore and remained involved in several telegraph ventures in the 1840s and 1850s, including the North American Telegraph Company, for which he was general superintendent from at least 1849-1850.
