Daniel R. Sandford was a miner and farmer. In December 1852, he married Martha M. Howard, in Edgar County, Illinois. The couple eventually had at least nine children. By 1860, Sandford and his family were living in Stratton Township in Edgar County, and he owned a personal estate valued at $9,000 and real estate valued at $18,300. He died in Barton County, Missouri.
