Spencer, John (of Indiana)

In 1797, Spencer emigrated with his parents to Dearborn County, Indiana. After serving in the Indiana militia, Spencer was elected sheriff of Dearborn County, serving three terms. In December 1831, President Andrew Jackson appointed Spencer receiver of public moneys at Fort Wayne, Indiana, a position he held until January 1840.
