Sutton, Benjamin

Died: 1839-XX-XX

Flourished: Morgan County, Illinois

Sutton and his family migrated from New Jersey to Michigan in 1823 or 1824, settling in an area near Ann Arbor. After ten years in Michigan, Sutton moved his family to Morgan County, Illinois. He took up residence six miles north of Chandlerville in a section of Morgan County that would become part of Cass County when the General Assembly established that county in 1837. He purchased hundreds of acres of public land in the area, and served a school trustee. Before moving to Michigan, Sutton married Elizabeth Robe, with whom he had six children.
