Truett, Henry B.

Flourished: Sangamon County, Illinois

Truett moved to Springfield, Illinois, sometime before 1837. A Democrat, Truett shot and killed Jacob M. Early in 1838 because Early, part of another faction of Democrats, was upset that Truett had been nominated for register of the Land Office in Galena. Truett retained John T. Stuart and Abraham Lincoln, who successfully defended him against murder charges.
