Turpin married in Kentucky and lived with his family for a time in Missouri before moving to Sangamon County, Illinois, by 1838. In Sangamon County, Turpin was a farmer. Following the death of his first wife, he re-married in 1838 to Amazet (or Emasette) Campbell.
