Watkins, Thomas

Watkins settled in the Territory of Illinois prior to the War of 1812, in which he served as a ranger. Beginning in the early 1820s, he purchased numerous tracts of public land south of Petersburg, Illinois. By 1850, he was a farmer with real estate valued at $5,000. By 1860, he owned real estate valued at $30,600 and a personal estate of $4,600.
