John Wilson was a farmer, landowner, and early settler of Malone Township, Tazewell County, Illinois. Wilson was living in Tazewell County as early as 1831, when he purchased 160 acres of public land near Dillon southeast of Pekin. In July 1834, Wilson married Susanna Norris. In November 1849, he acquired 160 acres of public land in what would become Malone Township in southern Tazewell County. In 1850, he owned real property valued at $1,000. By 1860, he was farming near Tremont and owned real property valued at $3,000 and had a personal estate of $500.
