John Wistar was a Philadelphia businessman. In 1828, he married Margaret Newbold, with whom he had four children. In 1840, Wistar was a lumber merchant and partner in the firm of Evans & Wistar. In 1860, he was living in Ward Twenty-Two and owned real estate valued at $15,000.
