Simon S. Wyckoff and his family moved from Somerset County, New Jersey, to Fulton County, Illinois, in 1837. In 1838, Simon taught school in the town of Fairview. His first wife, Mary Cline Wyckoff, died sometime in the 1830s or 1840s, and in 1847, he married Ann Clingenfield. In 1850, Wyckoff was living with Ann in Canton, working as a clerk, and owned real property valued at $600. In 1860, he was a grocer in Canton.
