Formerly known as 'Fever River' and 'La Pointe,' Galena received a U.S. Post Office in January 1826. The Illinois General Assembly and Galena residents incorporated it as a town in 1835. Home of President Ulysses S. Grant, Galena serves as the seat of Jo Daviess County.
