Located in north-central Illinois and named after Franciscan Friar Jean Louis Hennepin, Hennepin received its first U.S. Post Office in October 1831. The Illinois General Assembly incorporated it in 1839, and expanded its town limits in 1840. Hennepin is the county seat of Putnam County.
