Lynchburg was a village in Mason County, Illinois. Located in Lynchburg Township in southwest Mason County, Lynchburg was originally part of Sangamon County and moved first to Menard and later to Mason County when the Illinois General Assembly established those respective counties in 1839 and 1841. Proprietor George May laid out the village in the mid 1830s, and began selling town lots in August 1837.
