Ashmore, Illinois is a village in Coles County, Illinois. Situated on the Indianapolis and St. Louis Railroad, seven miles east of Charleston, Ashmore became a village in 1855. In February 1855, Hezekiah J. Ashmore and James D. Austin surveyed and laid out the village, which was named for the former. The U.S. Post Office Department established a post office in the village in November 1855. The town was Republican in politics.
