Named after Dr. Charles Chandler, the first Euro-American to settle the area in 1832, Chandlerville sits just east of Beardstown, Illinois. Agriculture comprised the main economic endeavor of the village during its infancy, but hog farming also contributed to its early economic development. The U.S. Post Office Department established a post office in the town in August 1856. The Illinois General Assembly incorporated Chandlerville as a village in February 1861.
