Northwood, New Hampshire is a town in Rockingham County. The first white settlers began arriving in the area that would become Northwood in 1763. Initially part of the town of Nottingham, the population grew steadily and in late 1772, inhabitants petitioned the New Hampshire General Court for permission to separate from Nottingham. The General Court granted this request and in February 1773, promulgated an act of incorporation creating Northwood as a town. Two years later, the population of the town numbered 313.
