1This and the following measurements appear on the five sides of an irregular pentagon
shape. In the middle of the pentagon is a wavy line labeled “Spring” and a solid line
labeled “Public road.” It is likely that ”Spring” referred to Spring Creek, which
is a tributary of the Sangamon River and originates just north of Springfield, running south and than west just beyond New Berlin, Illinois. If the direction of the creek indicated on the map is accurate, it is possible that
this land was located just south of the Sangamon River where Spring Creek originates.
