Statement of Thomas Epperson regarding Sangamon River Navigation, [1837]1
I certify that I had the entire control of the Steam Boat Utility once up, and once out of the Sangamon county river; and that I have been up and down the said river, on flat and other boats, at least once a year, for the last five of six years; and that, in my opinion, the even the small sum of fifteen hundred, or two thousand dollars, might be profitably expended in improving the said river.
