That the President of the U S. &c.
That a collection district be, and the same is hereby, erected and established in
the State of New York, to be known as the Whitehall district; and that the town of
Whitehall, in the county of Washington, in said State, be, and the same is hereby,
made a port of entry.
Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That the said collection district of Whitehall,
shall include all the— shores and waters of lake Champlain, lying within the— county
of Washington, in the State of New York, and the— county of Rutland, in the State
of Vermont, and that the town of Whitehall, aforesaid, shall be the only port of entry
in said collection district.
Sec. 3. And be it further enacted, That a collector, and such other revenue officers
as may be necessary, shall be appointed for said district, who shall reside at Whitehall,
and whose compensation shall be the usual fees and forfeitures provided by law, and
no more.

Resolved, That the Bill from the House of Representatives entitled
“An Act to establish a collection district in the State of New York,” do pass, with the following

Amendment:
Strike out all after the enacting clause; and, in lieu thereof, the following:
That the President of the United States, on the recommendation of the Secretary of
the Treasury, be authorized to extend to the town of Whitehall the same privileges
as are conferred on certain ports named in the seventh section of an act, entitled
“An act allowing drawback upon foreign merchandise exported in the original packages
to Chihuahua and Santa Fe, in Mexico, and to the British North American provinces
adjoining the United States,” passed third March, eighteen hundred and forty-five,
in the manner prescribed by the proviso contained in said Section.
Amend the title of the bill, by striking out all after the word “act,” and inserting:
to extend certain privileges to the town of Whitehall, in the State of New York.
