AN ACT to change the name of Salu.

Sec.[Section] 1. Be it enacted by the people of the State of Illinois, represented in the General Assembly, That from and after the passage of this act, all that part of the county of Madison, on which the town of Salu is situated, shall be annexed to, and form a part of Upper Alton, and shall be hereafter known by the name of Upper Alton, any plat or name to the contrary notwithstanding.2

1On December 21, 1835, Nathaniel Buckmaster in the House of Representatives presented the petition of citizens of Salu, requesting that Salu be added to Upper Alton. The House referred the petition to a select committee. In response to this petition, Buckmaster of the aforesaid select committee introduced HB 52 in the House on December 22. The House passed the bill unamended on December 30. The Senate passed the bill unamended on January 14, 1836. On January 16, the Council of Revision approved the bill and the act became law.

2Around 1820, four settlers laid out the town of Salu, which was north of Upper Alton. In February 1841, the General Assembly enacted an act that altered the plat of the Salu addition to Upper Alton.
