Sec.[Section] 1st Be it enacted by the people of the State of Illinois Represented in the General Assembly, That the county commissioners court of Green county be hereby authorized and required to create an additional Justices district in said County of Green, which district shall include the Town of Jerseyville as near the centre of it as may be
Sec. 2. The clerk of said court shall order an election as soon as practicable to be held in the Town of Jerseyville for the election of one Justice of the Peace and one constable for said district which election shall be conducted in all respects as provided by Law for the election of Justices of the Peace and constables in other cases.2
Sec. 3. Whenever the Legislature or county commissioners courts of any county in this State have heretofore created special districts for the election of one Justice of the peace and one constable, the county commissioners courts of the counties in which said districts are situated are hereby authorized to order an election of an additional Justice of the Peace and Constable in said district whenever public Justice and convenience may require it.

1On December 29, 1835, James Turney in the House of Representatives presented the petition of citizens of Greene County, requesting the creation of a new election precinct. The House referred the petition to a select committee. Turney of the select committee introduced HB 100 in the House on December 31. On January 1, 1836, the House tabled the bill.

2In December 1826, the General Assembly passed a law providing for the election of justices of the peace and constables. Before this law, the General Assembly had nominated and appointed justices of the peace and constables under provisions of a 1819 law.
