[Sec 1.?] Be it enacted by the state of [Illinois] represented in the General Assembly, That [?] of the State road leading from [Shawneetown?] between the line, [?] to the Town [?] . . . be so changed as to run by John [?] thence on the nearest and best ground, [so as to?] intersect the present road, at or near the [?] and so much of the said road as lies between Benjamin [Hammocks?] and Josiah [Jinns?], [?] by David Upchurch[]es and George McCreery[]s in the County of Gallatin, be, and the same is [hereby declared?], a state road, And so much the [?] road as lies between [Forgus Millicans?] and [the] South East corner of Richard G. and William C Murphy[]s land, in the county of Perry, [?] changed as to run on the section line [between?] said Murphy[]s land, and the aforesaid [?] thence on the nearest and best ground [so as?] to intersect the present road at some [common?] point wherever the supervisor of the said [road?] may think proper, and said road [when so located?], to be marked, and kept in repair, [as?] [?] act [to be?] [from and?] . . .passage.2

1Johnson Wren introduced HB 109 in the House of Representatives on January 1, 1836. The House referred the bill to a select committee. The select committee reported back the bill on January 6 with an amendment, in which the House concurred. The House passed the bill as amended on January 9. The Senate took no action.

2State roads were those public roads established or designated by the General Assembly and usually crossed county lines. Only the General Assembly could establish, alter, or abandon state roads, until 1840 and 1841, when the General Assembly gave counties the authority to alter or to abandon state roads upon petition by a majority of voters in the area of the change.
