Sec 1. Be it enacted by the people of the state of Illinois represented in the General assembly, That hereafter no plea in abatement shall be received in any Court of Record, unless such plea shall be filed on, or before the third day of the first term of the court at which the defendant is or may be bound to plead or answer to the action.2
Sec[Section] 2. The certificate of any Register or the duplicate receipt of any Receiver of any Land Office of the United States of the entry or purchase of any tract of land within his district, shall be deemed and taken to be primafacia evidence of title in the party who made such entry or purchase, or his, her[,] or their heirs or assigns in any action where it shall be necessary to prove title to any such tract of land.3

1On December 16, 1835, Archibald Williams introduced SB 20 in the Senate. On December 18, Senate referred the bill and a proposed amendment adding an additional section to the Committee on the Judiciary. The Committee on the Judiciary reported back the bill on January 1, 1836, with an amendment, in which the Senate concurred. The Senate tabled the bill. On January 2, the Senate too up the bill, further amending it by striking out the first section. The Senate passed the bill as amended on January 4. On January 11, the House of Representatives referred the bill to a select committee, which reported back the bill on January 12, recommending its rejection. The same day, the House refused to read the bill a third time.
