Sec[Section] 1 Be it enacted by the people of the State of Illinois represented in the General Assembly2 That Thomas Redmond be allowed further time until the first day of January one thous[and] eight hundred and thirty seven to pay a debt o[f] Fifty dollars due the State for a lot No 25 in the Town of Vandalia.3

1David McGahey introduced SB 63 in the Senate on December 31, 1835. The Senate tabled the bill. On January 1, 1836, the Senate amended the bill by striking out all of the text after the enacting clause and inserting a new first section. The Senate passed the bill as amended on January 4. On January 9, the House of Representatives read the bill the first time, but declined to read it the second time. On January 13, the House refused to reconsider its previous decision by a vote of 21 yeas to 29 nays, with Abraham Lincoln voting yea.
