AN ACT to amend an act, entitled “An act to provide for the Election of Justices of the Peace and Constables.”

County commissioners authorized to increase the number of Justices districts in their respective counties.
Sec.[Section] 1. Be it enacted by the people of the State of Illinois, represented in the General Assembly, That the county commissioners’ courts in the several counties of this State, be, and they are hereby authorized to increase the number of districts for the election of Justices of the Peace in their respective counties whenever they may deem the interest of the people require the same.2

Manner of election.
Sec. 2. The Justices elected in said districts, shall be elected in the manner, and be subject to the provisions contained in the act to which this is an amendment.3
Acts repealed.
Sec. 3. That so much of the act, to which this is an amendment, as limits the number of Justices’ districts to eight in each county4, be, and the same is hereby repealed.5

1On December 17, 1834, William H. Davidson introduced the bill in the Senate. On December 18, the Senate amended the bill by adding, after the word “eight” in the last section, the words “ in each county.” The Senate passed the bill as amended on December 19. The House of Representatives concurred on December 24. On January 7, 1835, the Council of Revision approved the bill and the act became law.
