AN ACT to change the name of the town of Columbia.

The name of the town of Columbia changed to Lacon.
Sec.[Section] 1. Be it enacted by the people of the State of Illinois, represented in the General Assembly, That from and after the passage of this act, all that part of the county of Putnam on which the town of Columbia is situated, and which is embraced in the recorded plat thereof, shall hereafter be known by the name of Lacon; any plat or name to the contrary notwithstanding.2

1Thomas Atwater introduced HB 31 in the House of Representatives on December 23, 1836. On January 2, 1837, the House amended the bill by striking out the word “Augusta” and inserting in lieu thereof the word “Lacon.” The House passed the bill as amended on January 6. The Senate concurred on January 10. On January 19, the Council of Revision approved the bill and the act became law.
