Whereas Asaph Hill, Austin Bishop, Hiram Barns, James Blair, Milo Gookins, Thomas Anderson, and Simon Turman, citizens of the County of Vermilion in the State of Indiana have presented their petition to this Legislature, setting forth that they and their associates, were incorporated by an act of the
Legislature of the State of Indiana at their session in 1836, by the name and style of the “President and Directors of
the Perrysville and Danville Rail Road Company with authority to construc a Rail Road from Perrysville to the line of this State in a direction towards the town of Danville in this State that the Stock of said company sufficient to construct said road from Perrysville to Danville, the aforesaid persons and associate have pledged themselves to take up and Subscribe
as soon as this act th is passed, that the distance from the State line to Danville, is about eight miles; that said petitioners have prayed of this Legislature for authority to extend their proposed Rail Road from the State line of this State to the town of Danville as aforesaid, and the objects, and intentions of said petitioners appearing to this
Legislature to be just and resonable,
Therefore
Sec[Section] 1 Be it enacted by the people of the State of Illinois represented in the General Assembly, That the aforesaid Corporation, known by the name, and style of “the President and Directors of the “Perrysville and Danville
Rail Road
Company” shall have full power and authority to extend their proposed Rail
Road commencing at Perrysville in Indiana to Danville in Illinois, as far as the same may extend through this State, and to enable said company to effect the objects and intentions of this Legislature, they are hereby authorized to sue, and be sued, defend and be defended, plead, and
be inpleaded, answer, and be answered unto; in all Courts in this State, having competent jurisdiction; and said company shall have the right to intersect with any other Rail Road at Danville upon such terms as can be agreed upon by said Companies respectively.
Sec 2 That sections twelve, thirteen, fourteen, and fifteen, of an act of this State to incorporate the “Wabash
Mississippi
Rail Road Company” in force Jan.[January] 15 1836, Shall be extended, and applied to the said Perrysville and Danville Rail Road Company, and they shall be entitled to all the rights and privileges, under said Sections,
and bound to all restrictions therein contained for opening,

repairing[,] and enjoying Said Rail Road from the State line of this State to Danville; and said sections applicable to said Perrysville
and Danville Rail Road Company in every respect as fully as if said sections were incorporated in this act.
Sec 3 That all the rights and privileges granted under this act to the aforesaid Company, shall exist and continue in full force during the continuance of their charter or
act of incorporation granted by the Legislature of the State of Indiana and no longer, which said act was approved January 26. 1836. This act shall be a
public act and shall be in force from and after its passage.

1John H. Murphy of a select committee, to which the House of Representatives referred a petition, introduced HB 163 in the House on February 2, 1837. The House
passed the bill on March 1. On March 2, the Senate tabled the bill. On March 3, the Senate took up the bill, amending it by adding
a proviso to the last session giving the State of Illinois the right to purchase, upon completion, that portion of the railroad laying within
the state. The Senate refused to read the bill a third time by a vote of 13 ayes
to 19 nays.
