Be it enacted by the people of the state of Illinois Represented in the General Assembly. That the unexpended balance of an appropriation, from the proceeds of the Ohio Saline lands for the improvement of the navigation of the Saline Creek, authorized by an act entitled
an “act concerning the Saline Reserves, a Penitentiary and the improvement of certain navigable streams” approved Feb. 15.

And the unexpended balance of certain appropria^9^2 tions authorized and named in an act entitled “an ac[t] to explain the act and amend an ^the^ act” the titled of which is hereinbefore recited, approved March 2d 1833,3 be and the said balance or balances are hereby directed to be laid ^out^ in the manner following, to wit, if it shall appear that ^14^ there is an unexpended balance in the premises of six^16^teen hundred dollars then six hundred dollars for the improvement of Fords’ Road leading
from Equality the Ohio River to Equality, the improvement to be commenced at the Ohio and continue toward Equality. said appropriation to be expended under the direction of Stokely, T H. Spencer, ^and^ Edward Leavell who are hereby appointed Commissioners for that purpose. two hundred dollars for
the improvements of the Road leading from Equality to Vienna and Jonesboro; to be expended under the direction of Jesse E. Rude[,] Levi M. Walston, ^and^ William Hutchison. ^jun.^ who are hereby appointed Commissioners for that purpose; two hundred dollars for
the improvement of the road leading from Equality to the settlement in Gallatin County known by the name of South America, to be expended under the direction of Edward Baker, Jas. Furgeson, ^and Wm Bolin^ with reference first to the improvement of that portion of said road lying in the
horse Swamp; who are hereby authorised appointed Commissioners for that purpose; two hundred dollars for the improvement
of the road leading from Shawneetown to McCleansboro through Cypress, to be expended under the direction of Hugh Bradly, James Dillard sen. and John Crofford who are hereby appointed Commissioners for that purpose; the sum of two hundred dollars
for the improvement of the road leading from Shawneetown to McCleansboro through the nettle bottom to be expended under the direction of

of Wm McCoy, Henry Mills, and James Barker who are hereby appointed Commissioners for that purpose; two hundred ^dollars^ for the improvement of the road leading from Shawneetown to New-Haven through the Ohio and Wabash bottoms, to be expended under the direction of Thos. Sadmore, John Boyer and Hiram Hooker. who are hereby appointed commissioners for that purpose
Sec. 2. If the balance hereinbefore mentioned has not been realized and shall not be,
then whatever sum has been or shall be realized for the benefit of Gallatin Cou[n]ty under the laws, the titles of which are hereinbefore recited shall be appropriated
upon the basis of the appropriations hereinbefore made, each appropriation bearing
a proportionate reduction.
Sec. 3d The Commissioners herein appointed shall before they enter upon the duties of their
offices enter into bond with approved security to the Clerk of the County Commissioners Court of the proper County for the benefit and use of the people of said County in the
sum they are respectively authorized to expend by this act Conditioned for the faithful
use and application of the funds (herein contemplated, which that shall come to their hands. And the Clerk of said Commissioners upon producing
the certific to the Commissioner of the Ohio salines a certificate from the Clerk of the County Commissioners Court of the proper County that they have entered into bond in the manner directed by this
act, shall be sufficient warrant and authority for him to pay over to said Commissioners
the sums subject to their expenditure under this act, as the same shall be^come available^ subject to damages under this act. provided allways that the receipts of said Commissioners sh[all] be a sufficient voucher for the payment of the monies authorized under this act.

1John A. McClernand from the Committee on Salines introduced HB 266 in the House of Representatives on February 13, 1837. On February 15, the House referred the bill to a select committee,
which reported back the bill with amendments on February 23. The House approved the
amendments and on February 24, they passed the bill. On February 28, the Senate referred the bill to a select committee, which took no further action.
