Commissioners appointed to review a road from Lebanon to Wiggins’s ferry.
Sec.[Section] 1. Be it enacted by the people of the State of Illinois, represented in the General Assembly, That John Messenger, Samuel Ogle, and Matthew Potter, are hereby appointed commissioners to review and re-locate the State road from Lebanon, in St. Clair county, to Wiggin’s ferry, on the Mississippi river, opposite St. Louis, Missouri. Said road to be laid out on the nearest and best ground, having due regard to the
private rights.
Compensation, and how paid.
Commissioners to make report, &c.[etc.]
Sec. 2. Said commissioners shall be allowed, out of the county treasury of St. Clair county, a reasonable compensation per day for the time necessarily employed in reviewing
and re-locating said road. Said commissioners shall make and report to the county commissioners’ court of St. Clair county, a plat of said road, so re-located as aforesaid.

Sec. 3. Said road, when so re-located, shall be opened, worked, and kept in repair, as other
Stote roads are; and all laws and parts of laws coming within the purview of this act be,
and the same are hereby repealed.

1Responding to a petition from citizens of St. Clair County, John S. Hacker of the Committee on State Roads introduced SB 133 in the Senate on January 30, 1837. On January 31, the Senate referred the bill to a select committee.
On February 3, the select committee reported back a substitute for the bill, which
the Senate approved. The Senate passed the bill as amended on February 8. On February
20, the House of Representatives passed the bill and afterward amended the title by
striking out “Illinois Town” and inserting “Wiggin’s ferry” in lieu thereof. On February 24, the Senate concurred
in the amendment of the House. On February 27, the Council of Revision approved the bill and the act became law.
