AN ACT to alter the name of William Lock.
1Be it enacted by the people of the State of Illinois represented in the General Assembly, That William Lock, of the county of Morgan, shall hereafter be called and known by the name of William W. Hobbs, and by the name of William W. Hobbs shall sue and be sued, plead and be impleaded, defend and be defended, in all courts
of law and equity, and in all other places; and by the name of William W. Hobbs make all contracts, do and perform all legal acts of whatsoever character, name or
description: Provided, That nothing herein contained shall affect any contract heretofore entered into,
or any other legal acts done and performed by the said William Lock.

1On January 27, 1837, William Weatherford in the Senate introduced the petition of James Hobbs of Morgan County, requesting passage of a law changing the name of a certain person. The Senate referred
the petition to a select committee. In response to this petition, Weatherford of
the select committee introduced SB 134 in the Senate on January 30. On February 2, the Senate passed the bill. On February
3, the House of Representatives passed the bill. On February 18, the Council of Revision approved the bill, and the act became law.
