An Act to change the name of the town of Selma, in the County of Wabash & for other purposes.
Sec.[Section] 1. Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois represented in the General Assembly, That the name of the town of Selma, in the County of Wabash, shall be & it is hereby changed & said town shall hereafter be called & known in Law, as “Mount Carmel” & the plat of the recorded as the plat of the town of Selma shall be considered as an addition to the original town of Mount Carmel & called the “River addition to the town of Mount Carmel.” All writings and conveyances, describing lots as situated in the River addition to the town of Mount Carmel shall be deemed & considered as refering the recorded plat of the town of Selma.
Sec. 2 A right to establish a ferry across the Wabash River at or adjacent to lot number thirty three in the ^River^ addition to the town of Mount Carmel & to their heirs & assigns forever, which ferry when establis is hereby Granted to Hiram Bell & his associates proprietors of the add River Addition to the town of Mount Carmel aforesaid & to their heirs & assigns forever, which ferry when established as aforesaid shall be kept & regulated in the manner pointed out by the “Act entitled “An Act to provide for the establishment of Ferries, Toll Bridges & Turnpike Roads” passed 12 Feby 1827, & said Bell & his associates, heirs[,] & assigns, are hereby authorised & empowered to demand & receive from all persons crossing said ferry, the following rates of ferriage, towit: for each four wheeled loaded waggon with four horses or more one Dollar. For same unloaded seventy five cents. For each four wheeled two horse ^loaded^ waggon sixty two & a half cents; for same unloaded forty four cents for each ^person^[...?] & [...?] & single horse eighteen & three fourths cents; for each single or led horse six & one fourth cents; for each foot passenger six

& one fourth cents; for each head of neat cattle four cents; for each head of hogs, sheep[,] or goats two cents; for each two wheeled cart or gig & driver thirty seven & a half cents; for each sleigh or sled & one horse & driver twenty five cents; all other rates may be regulated by the County Commissioners Court.
Sec 3. So much of an act entitled an Act to locate a certain State Road” approved Jany’ 2, 1833 [...?] has not been complied with & carried into operation by [...?] commissioners [...?] be & the same is hereby revived & continued in force according to the intent & provisions thereof [...?] & said Commissioners are authorised to meet at such time & place as they may agree upon. Adam Hedrick & [...?]^David Pugh^ [...?] are hereby appointed Commissioners in lieu of the Commissioners named in the act above cited & hereby revived. The Commissioners shall be paid out of the Treasury of the County of Edwards.
Sec 4. That Hiram Bell & Abner Armstrong are hereby appointed Commissioners to view[,] mark[,] & locate a road upon the nearest & best ground, commencing at the ferry landing herein above granted & terminating wh running thence Westerly untill it shall intersect the road from Mount Carmel to Lawrenceville, or if said Commissioners should believe it more conducive to the publick’s convenience, they may extend said road from the ferry to some street in ^the^ town of Mount Carmel. Said road when located shall be opened & kept in repair as state Roads.
