Sec.[Section] 1. Be it enacted by the people of the State of Illinois, represented in the General Assembly, That so much of the eighth section of the act entitled “An act to incorporate the Beardstown and Sangamon Canal Company,” approved 28th of Dec., 1835, as required said company to file a copy of the map of the line or location of the canal, with the recorder of each county through which the canal passes, be, and the same is hereby repealed; and the first proviso to the tenth section of said act is also repealed.2

1On February 13, 1837, William Thomas introduced SB 167, originally titled "An Act Concerning Public Roads, and for other Purposes,” in the Senate. On February 21, the Senate referred the bill to a select committee, which on March 2 reported back with a substitute, entitled “An act to amend an act to incorporate the Beardstown and Sangamon Canal Company.” The Senate passed the substitute the same day. On March 4, the House passed the bill without amendment. That same day, theCouncil of Revision approved the bill, and the act became law.

2The first proviso to Section 10 of the original incorporation act restricted the canal company from building any dam or lock that would restrict navigation of the Sangamon River.
