AN ACT to constitute the town of Manchester a justice and constable’s district.
1Justice’s district.
Time of election.
Jurisdiction of justice.
Sec.[Section] 1. Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, represented in the General Assembly, That from and after the passage of this act, the corporate limits of the town of Manchester shall constitute a justice and constable’s district. The legal voters of the corporation
of said town shall, on the first Monday in April next, and on the first Monday in April, every fourth
year thereafter, elect, in said corporation, one justice of the peace and one constable, who, when elected and qualified, shall have concurrent jurisdiction with other justices of the peace and constables
in the county of Morgan, and shall hold their offices for the same term, and be subject to the same laws.
This act shall not be construed so as to prevent the citizens in the Manchester district from electing two justices of the peace and two constables, as now provided
by law. The citizens living in the said corporation shall not vote with the district for the two justices of the peace and constastables to be elected in the district; nor shall the district vote with the corporation for the justice and constable to be elected in the corporation.

1On January 17, 1839, Newton Cloud introduced HB 152 in the House of Representatives. On January 21, the House passed the bill. On February 5, the Senate referred the bill to a select committee which added an amendment. The Senate passed
the bill on February 5. On February 14, the House agreed to the Senate’s amendment.
On February 19, the Council of Revision approved the bill and the act became law.
