AN ACT fixing the northern termination of the Central railroad.

Northern termination of Central railroad.
Sec.[Section] 1. Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, represented in the General Assembly, That the Board of Public Works shall locate the northern termination of the Central railroad on the west side of Fever river, in the town of Galena; and the railroad shall cross the river at such point above Lampkins’ old ferry landing, and below Frederick’s point, as will least interrupt the free navigation of Fever river.

1On February 20, 1839, William H. Henderson introduced HB 379, originally titled “A Bill for the Encouragement and Promotion of Education,” in the House. On March 1, following the addition of an amendment by a select committee, the House passed the bill, and referred it to the Senate. On the suggestion of James Craig, the title was changed to “An act fixing the northern termination of the Central railroad.” On that same day, the Senate passed the bill without amendment. On March 4, theCouncil of Revision approved the bill, and the act became law.
