AN ACT to amend the act, entitled “An act declaring what shall be evidence in certain cases,” approved January 10, 1827.

Legal title to land.
Sec.[Section] 1. Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, represented in the General Assembly, That a patent for land shall be deemed and considered a better legal and paramount title in the patentee, his heirs or assigns, than the official certificate of any register of a land office of the United States, of the entry or purchase of the same land.

1On December 15, 1839, Senator James Turney introduced SB 21 in the Senate. On December 20, the Senate referred the bill to the Committee on the Judiciary. On December 28, the Committee on the Judiciary recommended passage of the bill without amendment, and the bill was laid on the table. On February 11, 1839, the Senate passed the bill. On February 19, the House of Representatives referred the bill to the Committee on the Judiciary. On February 25, the Committee on the Judiciary reported the bill without amendment, and the House passed the bill. On February 27, the Council of Revision approved the bill and the act became law.
