The undersigned, citizens of the County of Pike and State of Illinois aforesaid, respectfully represent:

That, whereas your Petitioner, Robert Davis, of the County and State aforesaid, being security to the State for James Davis, late County Commissioner’s Clerk of said County of Pike, who is now in default to said State of Illinois, (and for which his security aforesaid is liable) to a large amount say Dollars, and which said James Davis has left the State aforesaid, being insolvent, thereby involving his said security to an extent that would prove his irremediable ruin, should the collection of his Bond be immediately enforced and his property thereby sacrificed;

Now, therefore, beleiveing that the said Robert Davis your Petioner as aforesaid, intends honestly and scrupulously to discharge his said Bond as soon as his circumstances will possibly permit, and believeing further, that under the present pressure of the times, it is now wholly out of his power;

We humbly pray your Honorable body, to grant to the said Robert Davis, your Petitioner as aforesaid, a reasonable and sufficient time (taking into consideration the severity of the [case,?] and the great difficulty to converting property into money) to meet and discharge this aforesaid Bond, without causing great distress to himself and family.

And, as in duty bound we will every pray &c[etc.].
