Sec.[Section] 1. Be it enacted by the people of the State of Illinois, represented in the General Assembly, That the name of the town of Geneva, in the county of Warren be, and the same is, hereby changed to that of Bedford.

1In response to a petition of the proprietors of the town of Geneva, John D. Wood introduced SB 43 in the Senate on December 24, 1838. The Senate passed the bill on January 2. The House of Representatives passed the bill on January 5. On January 15, the Council of Revision approved the bill and the act became law.
